It wasn’t until 1996 that Robert again found Martial Arts in the form of Western Boxing; he trained for 2 years gaining the necessary skills and tools for this sport.
However, Robert was always interested in Oriental Martial arts and was constantly looking for a Martial Art style to truly capture him. In this pursuit he found Wing Chun in January of 2002. Robert diligently followed this Chinese Boxing style and achieved instructor level in 2007.
Robert chose to visit Hong Kong in 2007 with a friend to further his understanding of Wing Chun. Most Schools were closed due to it being Chinese New Year but after calling many schools luckily Sifu Wan Kam Leung answered the phone, a meeting was arranged at the school and he went along. Robert was quite confident in his Wing Chun level at this time due to meeting another Sifu in Hong Kong prior to Wan Kam Leung, but as soon as Robert touched hands with Sifu Wan, he was suddenly controlled as if he were a small child. It was at this moment that he realised that his skill was just a pinch of what it could be. Robert was so amazed by Sifu Wan Kam Leung’s skill, power and soft approach to Wing Chun that he chose to empty his cup and start from the beginning in Practical Wing Chun. Robert came back to Hong Kong often and trained privately with Sifu Wan Kam Leung everyday whilst on his trips, after he would return to the UK to practice and teach what he had learnt.
Robert moved to Hong Kong in the February of 2012 to further his study of Practical Wing Chun under Sifu Wan Kam Leung. He is still living in Hong Kong today so he can further improve upon his skills and understanding of this very amazing and unique Kung Fu style.
Robert also studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA in the UK between 2009-2012, just to have a broader understanding of these effective fighting styles and Martial Arts in general.
Robert is a fully qualified Personal Trainer (Premier Training International, 2010). He is also a qualified Active Isolated Stretching therapist and has a strong passion for health, fitness and personal development.
